About Us

Great Sky is a technology startup based with a mission to rebuild AI from first principles. We are pursuing neuroscience-inspired hardware and algorithms that overcome the greatest challenges in scaling AI systems.

We're looking for a hands-on IT & Security Manager to own our technology infrastructure from the ground up. You'll be our first dedicated IT hire, which means you'll do the work, shape how we do it, and build the systems and practices that will carry us through our next phase of growth.

You'll report to the CTO and work directly with the team rather than in a silo. Your goal is to enable the team, not to block them. Success in this role means removing friction for our people, and while the position is hands on today, it comes with a clear path to broader scope and leadership as we grow!

How You’ll Make An Impact:

Automation first mindset

  • Build IT and security as code: use Python, Bash, Terraform, and MDM/IdP APIs to make infrastructure, device configuration, and access controls reproducible and maintainable

  • Connect systems into end-to-end workflows: automate onboarding/offboarding, provisioning, approvals, and access changes across identity, devices, cloud infrastructure, and SaaS applications

Run and Secure the stack

  • Own IT across macOS, Linux, and Windows: devices, network, firewall, office infrastructure, hardware procurement, asset and license tracking, and budget

  • Deploy MDM and endpoint security (CrowdStrike Falcon) fleet-wide, and stand up a zero-trust mesh/VPN (Tailscale, WireGuard, or Cloudflare Access) with identity gated SSH

  • Stand up identity (Entra ID/AD) with SSO, MFA, and RBAC, plus secrets management (Vault, 1Password, or SSM) with rotation and no credentials in repos

  • Secure our cloud (AWS, GCP, SLURM): IAM, network segmentation, controlled ingress/egress, and encrypted backups

  • Support onsite rack-mounted and bare metal Linux servers as we productize

  • Manage vendors: decide what to run in-house vs. outsource, and vet tools before they touch our systems

Build the Security and Compliance program

  • Lead SOC 2 and other certification efforts, working with external assessors and managed providers

  • Build toward centralized logging, SIEM, and asset inventory

  • Own incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity

  • Stay current on export control rules, given our deep tech work and government contracts

Enable AI adoption across the company

  • Help teams identify valuable uses for AI, integrate tools and agents into everyday workflows, and make successful approaches easy to adopt across the company

  • Own AI tool deployment, access, and vendor evaluation, along with clear usage and data-handling policies that support productivity while protecting company IP and sensitive information

What you bring:

  • 5–8 years in IT and security, preferably having experience building from scratch at a small technical company

  • Strong IAM, secure networking, and cloud security experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

  • Fluency across macOS, Linux, and Windows

  • Strong scripting and systems integration skills, with a track record of replacing manual IT processes with reliable automation across multiple platforms

  • Demonstrated, hands on proficiency with modern AI tools (ie. Claude, GPT, agents) as part of your daily workflow

  • A track record of working directly with engineers and leadership to ship reliable, documented, usable systems

Nice to have: CMMC, NIST 800-171, or CUI experience; export control awareness (deemed exports); EDR/MDR, and incident response experience; GCC High or government cloud; SOC 2; bare-metal server experience

Benefits and Perks

  • Meaningful equity ownership in an early-stage deep tech company

  • Employer-matched 401(k)

  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance

  • Flexible PTO

  • Support for ongoing learning, conference attendance, and skill development

Our culture is onsite by default (we're founded by scientists who are used to working in the lab), with flexibility for hybrid arrangements. For the right person and role, we're open to filling roles remotely
